Wooden models for casting

Even though sand casting is one of the most known foundry processes, it needs an accurate design of the models.

Starting from the 3D the shape of the real model will have to take into account of shrinkage of the material during solidification, then inserting drafts and fillets.
Moreover, the presence of undercuts will make necessary the presence of cores, and then changing the model itself.

Because of the rough surface finishing and tolerance of the process in some areas will be necessary to asport material, so is important to insert some over material, and to put sprue and channels.

Wooden models are versatile, cheap and easy to use, especially for what concern big dimensions casting and low production rate.
